Last week, we were delighted to welcome Alison Hume MP to Saint Cecilia’s in Eastfield, where she visited the temporary GP centre supporting Eastfield Medical Centre and the local community.
Following flood damage to Eastfield Medical Centre’s usual premises, Saint Cecilia’s has been pleased to offer space within The Lounge, allowing GP services to continue locally while essential repairs are carried out. Alison’s visit provided an opportunity to see first-hand how this partnership is helping ensure patients can still access vital healthcare close to home.
During her visit, Alison met with staff from both Saint Cecilia’s and Eastfield Medical Centre and learned more about how parts of the care home have been thoughtfully adapted to accommodate temporary GP services. Each day, GPs are holding up to 30 appointments, split between morning and afternoon sessions, alongside home visits for those who need extra support. Healthcare Assistants are also seeing between 35 and 40 patients daily, carrying out blood tests and essential health checks.

“Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting The Lounge at Saint Cecilia’s, who have so generously helped Eastfield Medical Centre during this challenging time. It was inspiring to see the temporary rooms in action and meet some of the dedicated staff, many of them on their very first day at the rooms.
It has been an incredibly challenging time for SSP staff at Eastfield Medical Centre who have worked hard to support their patients, who have suffered disruption and delay.
I'd also like to thank the patients of Eastfield Medical Centre for their patience and understanding during the past months”.
We were proud to show Alison the dedication and teamwork taking place within Saint Cecilia’s, and how collaboration between health and social care can make a real difference during challenging times.
